Things That Make You Go Hmmm…

So the other day I saw a commercial for the Touch-n-Brush and I just shook my head in disbelief. The more I think that people create the dumbest things the more I kick myself for not being creative enough to create these dumb things. I could’ve been a millionaire by now!

We’ve all improvised to make things work better. Why aren’t more of us millionaires? And it’s always the things I think are really stupid that seem to be hugely successful. Take the PedEgg. I criticized it for months saying it’s so stupid and probably doesn’t even work, then I caved and bought one and loved it. Turns out it really does work! And I can’t not mention the Snuggie, which is the equivalent of wearing your bathrobe backwards (perhaps Kriss Kross CAN make a comeback!). The commercial is so stupid. If your blanket doesn’t cover your feet get a bigger blanket or wear socks, who’s really gonna buy the Snuggie? Well, those who bought the Snuggie have turned its creator into a millionaire. Over 4 million Snuggies have been sold, and they now have Snuggies for dogs. The Snuggie has grown to be very popular- it’s got it’s own Facebook page and everything!

Maybe this is what will stimulate our economy out of the recession- these seemingly absurd get rich quick as seen on tv items. Perhaps the SBA and venture capitalists should consider investing more into the Average Joe rather than those with an organized business plan and stellar credit score. Maybe the future of the American economy lies not in the auto industry but in the cheap commercial goods industry. The Snuggie seems to be faring a lot better than the Big Three right now. Makes you go hmm huh!?
